Excess Liability
Shepherd was presented with an opportunity involving two related entities operating in the utility-scale solar construction space: a contractor building solar farms and an affiliated electrical contractor supporting those projects. From an underwriting standpoint, the account presented some initial challenges (particularly around jurisdiction), but the Shepherd team was still eager to try and find a solution for one of our trusted retail partners.
What further strengthened the opportunity was the organization’s intentional use of drone technology for jobsite monitoring and oversight. This approach aligns closely with Shepherd’s belief that technology can effectively improve visibility, safety, and risk management in construction operations.
The opportunity came through a broker referral and required a fast, coordinated turnaround. Because of the structure, two related entities needed to be underwritten at the same time, with carriers quoting both exposures together. Shepherd’s platform made this process efficient, allowing the underwriting team to move easily between the two opportunities while maintaining consistency, speed, and accuracy. This enabled the Underwriter to present a clear, unified proposal back to the broker.
Throughout the process, consistent communication with the broker helped keep things moving and aligned. Just as important was Shepherd’s ability to view the two deals together, giving carriers a clear picture of how the operations fit and supporting a smooth path to placement.
