Shepherd Savings is a program designed to provide upfront premium savings for contractors and developers who are investing in risk-reducing technology on job sites. The rewards are based on builders who have adopted, or are willing to implement these technologies for the first time. By incorporating these tools into project delivery, contractors are enhancing their risk controls and reducing the likelihood for loss.
One of our partners, OpenSpace, is a leader in Reality Capture technology, offering powerful tools for photo-based site documentation and project tracking. Their 360-degree cameras and AI-powered software allows contractors to quickly capture site images, map them to project plans, and create a full visual record of their jobsite. This enhances transparency, accountability, and collaboration, leading to better risk management outcomes.
Shepherd studied the impacts of OpenSpace on jobsite safety and found significant correlations between strong usage and improved liability claims outcomes, underscoring the value of OpenSpace as a comprehensive risk management solution. You can read more on our data study here.
When Shepherd receives any project-specific placement, our underwriting team will send an optional proposal for the client to leverage tools like OpenSpace in exchange for additional savings. For this OCIP project, we recognized an immediate opportunity to introduce OpenSpace (as the client was not already utilizing the tool) for the benefit of providing substantial savings.
Here’s how our streamline process works:
Underwriting: Shepherd introduced OpenSpace as a risk management solution for the project and we provide a side-by-side proposal showing the cost savings
Implementation: Shepherd introduced the client to our dedicated OpenSpace team to execute the agreement and ensure a smooth implementation
Analysis: Once the project begins, the client will receive ongoing tracking on product usage as well as best practices to improve their adoption and further savings at renewal
The decision to adopt OpenSpace proved compelling for the client. Beyond implementing a powerful solution for project productivity tracking and safety, they were able to do so without incurring additional expense. The financial benefits were particularly attractive: the cost savings not only covered the entire OpenSpace investment but generated additional funds for future risk management initiatives.
As the project progresses, our partnership delivers ongoing value through active monitoring and support. Shepherd’s customer service team collects real-time utilization data from OpenSpace and translates this information into actionable insights for the client. This continuous feedback helps optimize their use of the technology while maintaining high standards for jobsite quality and safety. Through this data-driven approach, we're aiming to be a long-term partner in helping our contractors build safety and more sustainable construction practices.
